With social distancing restrictions due to the ongoing situation around the world, and especially in the United States, it is only natural that there is an increase in people suffering from grief with less of their usual social support systems.

On behalf of the counseling center, a spokesperson related that grief is a normal reaction to loss, and the center supports that normality. The spokesperson, however, explained that there can be complications due to low support from family and friends, unresolved anger, hurts, or unaddressed needs that loss curtails, and other factors.

Lifeworks, LLC is, therefore, playing its part in bringing comfort to grieving persons in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Island and the entire region through its counseling services. A spokesperson for the center says, “If you or someone you love could use help navigating one or more significant losses – no matter how recent or distant in the past, we might be a great resource”.

In the counseling world, teletherapy has traditionally been quite restricted by regulations. Those have been relaxed recently as a response to the pandemic and the need for travel restrictions and other safety precautions, and Lifeworks has expanded its care to include teletherapy accordingly.

Teletherapy is now available at the counseling center via telephone or video, whichever is preferred by clients. Face-to-face counseling continues as well, however, for those who would much rather have a closer interaction with their counselors. In keeping with the necessary precautions implored by authorities during the current situation, Lifeworks, LLC assures that their medical practice office will be kept sanitary.

Lifeworks, LLC offers therapy, life coaching, couples counseling, family therapy, stress management, and biofeedback. Services are also offered to deal with ADD/ADHD and depression.

Globes carpet kicks off with big sleeves and shades of pink

Jul 14, 2020

NEW YORK — Cynthia Erivo and Greta Gerwig rocked sparkling chokers as the Golden Globes red carpet kicked off Sunday, with Erivo in a hand-beaded custom Thom Browne gown and Gerwig in black and cream. Both went off-shoulder for the big night in Beverly Hills, California. Erivo, the “Harriet” star and fashion standout, said her dress includes designs of her favorite flower, the peony, at the hem and in her lining. The short-sleeve gown, Erivo told E!, took 800 hours. A huge blue stone dropped from her short necklace. Shades of pink had an early trend moment on Kirsten Dunst...

Solidarity march against anti-Semitism, acts of hate

Jul 14, 2020

NEW YORK — Throngs of demonstrators joined by elected officials walked solemnly across the Brooklyn Bridge in a solidarity march Sunday against anti-Semitism and all acts of hate. The “No Hate, No Fear" march was organized by New York's Jewish community in the wake of recent anti-Semitic attacks, including a knife attack at a Hanukkah celebration north of New York City that left five people wounded and a fatal shootout at a kosher grocery in Jersey City, New Jersey. The crowds of participants jammed the streets in lower Manhattan as they waited their turns to get across the bridge. “It...

Streep, Miranda and Stone are named as Met Gala co-0chairs

Jul 14, 2020

NEW YORK — Next year's Met Gala may be the closest we'll ever come to getting a Miranda Priestly moment at the starry event. Meryl Streep has been named as a co-chair of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The Oscar-winner played Priestly, a thinly veiled fictional version of Vogue editor Anna Wintour, in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." Wintour clearly has no hard feelings because she selected Streep as a co-chair along with Lin-Manuel Miranda and fellow Oscar-winner Emma Stone. Designer Nicolas Ghesquiere rounds out the group. The gala's theme is "About Time: Fashion and Duration," which...

Congress approves bill expanding animal cruelty law

Jul 14, 2020

WASHINGTON — Congress has passed a bill making certain types of animal cruelty a federal felony. The bill would expand a 2010 law that made creation or distribution of so-called "animal crushing" videos illegal. The new bill would make the underlying acts of cruelty a federal crime. The Senate unanimously passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act on Tuesday, two weeks after the House passed it on a voice vote. Florida Reps. Ted Deutch and Vern Buchanan sponsored the bill. Deutch, a Democrat, said it "sends a clear message that our society does not accept cruelty against animals" and...

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Two collectors said you're the one that I want to Olivia Newton-John's iconic "Grease" leather jacket and skintight pants at an auction Saturday in Beverly Hills. Julien's Auctions says the combined ensemble, which Newton-John's character Sandy wears in the closing number of the 1978 film, fetched $405,700 total. The leather jacket sold for $243,200 and the pants, which Newton-John famously had to be sewn into, went for $162,500. Other "Grease" memorabilia included a Pink Ladies jacket that went for $50,000 and a poster signed by Newton-John, John Travolta, director Randal Kleiser and producer and songwriter John...
