Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Christopher T. Shaw, who serves patients in Atlanta, Georgia.

New York City, New York May 18, 2021 (Issuewire.com) - A highly-trained gastroenterologist, Dr. Shaw is in practice with Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates. He specializes in the prevention and treatment of diseases of the digestive system, such as irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, acid reflux disease, celiac disease, and colon cancer.

Established in 1976, Atlanta Gastroenterology Associates (AGA) has been a leading provider of gastroenterology services in Georgia - and throughout the southeast. And its goal remains the same: make high-quality, comprehensive digestive healthcare services more accessible to their patients.

Over the years, AGA has grown from two physicians to more than 90 and from one office in Atlanta to more than 50 locations throughout metro Atlanta, the north Georgia mountains, and Athens. In addition, the practice operates several accredited endoscopy centers where many outpatient gastrointestinal procedures are performed, and their physicians have privileges at most local hospitals.

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Shaw graduated with his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 1977. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology with San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium in 1980 and 1984, respectively.

With over 40 years of experience in his field, the doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Providing expert and compassionate care to all his patients, Dr. Shaw also has medical privileges at hospitals such as Emory University Hospital, Northside Hospital, Emory Saint Joseph Hospital, Mountain Lakes Medical Center, Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, Coliseum Medical Centers, Northside Hospital-Forsyth, Eastside Medical Center, Southern Regional Medical Center, and Wellstar North Fulton Hospital.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Shaw has been the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Patients' Choice Award (2010, 2011, 2015), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2011, 2012, 2014).

On a more personal note, he speaks both English and Spanish.
