Sly Bail Bonds has released a potentially controversial article “Citizen’s Need Educated On Bail Reform – I’ll Take the Monkey Before the Machine”, bringing some cause for concern, as the article may upset advocates who supported bail reform legislation and who will sit on the legislatively created Pretrial Services Program Review Commission.
The 1338 words article examines the high points and low points of Bail Reform, in the pursuit of providing A fresh perspective from numerous bail bondsman in Ohio for Bail Bondsman and taxpayers. In percentage of defendants held without bail has nearly doubled statewide manner though, a certain element of the article is set to spark discontent amongst Bail Reform Advocates.
Below is a portion of the piece, which neatly exemplifies the controversial element:
The idea of society collectively paying for the misdeeds of a few of its members is a socialist one. If you believe that our justice system should be more socialist in nature then you’re entitled to that opinion, and even though I may vehemently disagree (and I do) at least you’re giving your honest ideas on the subject. However, what we have in this situation is clever sleight of hand disguising such ideas in the sheep’s clothing of “equal justice for the poor”. The bail system doesn’t discriminate against the poor anymore then the notion of retained council vs. a public defender. Actually the inadequacy of competent counsel is a far bigger concern than pretrial detention. OJ Simpson, Casey Anthony (after bail was revoked), Robert Blake (over a year in jail before he was able to post bail) all good examples of people that were able to successfully defend themselves from behind bars because they had the financial means to do so.
A spokesperson for Sly Bail Bonds, Anthony Sylvester, says “Of course Sly Bail Bonds never sets out to intentionally upset anybody. The aim of our articles is first and foremost to at the end of the day the common citizen should be educated on this matter of grave importance and quickly. Their are people out there that even now seek to steal the 8th amendment of the constitution right out from under us as surely as the thieves they seek to set free from the burdens of facing the consequences of their actions. I am of the steadfast belief that being judged by a computer instead of my peers is a gross violation of my 8th amendment right to reasonable bail. I find nothing reasonable about my liberties being put solely in the hands of an automaton, and worse yet, an automation that no one knows anything about or what its judging me based on.. It is critical, however, that we stay dedicated to our true voice.
Although our “Citizen’s Need Educated On Bail Reform – I’ll Take the Monkey Before the Machine” might unsettle advocates who supported bail reform legislation and who will sit on the legislatively created Pretrial Services Program Review Commission, our duty is to our readers. We believe it’s more important to Actually the inadequacy of competent counsel is a far bigger concern than pretrial detention., than to please everyone. Which is notoriously difficult to do.”
Although there has been no backlash as of yet, the possibility exists as the article The idea of society collectively paying for the misdeeds of a few of its members is a socialist one. If you believe that our justice system should be more socialist in nature then you’re entitled to that opinion, and even though I may vehemently disagree (and I do) at least you’re giving your honest ideas on the subject. .
Anthony Sylvester owner of Sly Bail Bonds based in Canton, Ohio, Tom Short Bail Bonds based in Dayton, Ohio and partner with Jerry Black of All Ohio Bail Bonds based in Columbus, Ohio. has been a provider of in depth articles about the bail bonds industry on his website, blogs, industry journals and Facebook for the last 10 years.
Anthony Sylvester has stated the future aims for the website are to raise awareness of bail reform misinformation!. So Sly Bail Bonds hopes any controversy will pass quickly and re-emphasizes no offence is or was intended. Last and perhaps most crucial is bail bondsman need to reach out to other groups that share a common core of values and like minded interests and form a broader coalition of support. If we can get people and not just bail agents to join our cause it goes a long way toward our credibility and it effectively gets the word out. Much of the reason we’re losing ground is that no one outside the industry understands what’s happening and we are letting bail reform groups frame the debate to the public and outright lie. The problem is that bail is not common sense and what they are selling sounds reasonable on its face if you don’t know any better.
