A native of the Middle East country, Iraq, Dr. Al-Zoubaidi moved to Ireland, where he graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He later immigrated to the United States, completing his training in vascular and endovascular surgery at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, the University of Texas Medical Branch Hospitals, and the University of Buffalo.
Board certified in vascular surgery and surgery, Dr. Al-Zoubaidi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In May of 2017, Dr. Al-Zoubaidi performed the first TransCarotid Artery Revascularization or TCAR procedure in the state of Illinois. This innovative technique minimizes the risk of stroke during carotid procedures by temporarily reversing blood flow and placing a stent for long-term plaque stabilization and stroke prevention.
On a professional level, Dr. Al-Zoubaidi is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), and a member of both the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Iraqi Medical Science Association (former Chair of CME committee). His multifaceted expertise and commitment to advancing vascular care make him a distinguished figure in the medical community.
Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.
Among Dr. Al-Zoubaidi's various accolades include the Chief Resident of the Year Award at UTMB in Galveston, Texas 2013, Intercollegiate membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and England (IMRCS) in December 2006, and a Gold Medal in Ophthalmology in Medical School.
A dedicated family man, Dr. Al-Zoubaidi is married with two children, a daughter and a son. Outside the realm of medicine, he finds joy in road biking, traveling and learning new cultures, and actively participating in his son's travel soccer games.
